To minimise the construction impact of the West Island Line Project on road traffic and the environment, a fully enclosed conveyor belt connecting the access shaft at Kennedy Town Praya and the temporary barging point at the Western District Public Cargo Works Area (PCWA) is being constructed for spoil disposal by sea.

The fully enclosed conveyor system is approximately 320m long and is installed with acoustic panels to reduce noise and dust with a maximum spoil disposal capacity of up to 800t/hour, this conveyor system is anticipated to be in operation during the first quarter of 2011. By implementing a conveyor system to the barging point for spoil disposal, the number of trucks on roads within the Western District can be significantly reduced.
