Design Features
West Island Line (WIL) is an underground railway that serves as a Community Railway. It will run beneath the densely populated areas of the Western District. Over 90% of the area's residents will be able to conveniently access the railway by foot.
Convenient Pedestrian Network Connecting Uphill and Downhill Areas
The layout of station entrances will provide a convenient pedestrian network for both MTR passengers and the public to access destinations in the Mid-Levels as well as the areas along Queen's Road West through the unpaid areas of the stations.
Lift Entrances
High-speed lifts will be used to gain access to both Sai Ying Pun and Hong Kong University Stations, which are relatively deep. This will be more effective than escalators given the marked level difference between the station concourse and the entrance on the street.
